HammerWood is a quiet, woodland campsite in East Grinstead, West Sussex. Most visitors camp in tents but we have some indoor accomodation.

Until now we've had some low voltage LED lighting in the toilet block. We are now experimenting with solar panels, and the Hut has had some LED lighting installed.
It's taken all summer but we finally have the new generator installed. The hut has been constructed, secured, and now houses a new generator that will provide more power. As an off-grid site we have to provide our own electricity for lighting and sockets. The smaller generator will still be used for the moment while we finish installing the ducting and cabling.
We use generators during parts of the day and evening when mains electricity is required. Until now all our lighting has been mains voltage which has been turned off at night. We have now installed LED lighting in the toilet block which runs off battery power. This should make visits during the night a bit more comfortable and has the benefit of being silent.
John, with help from Colin, has finished the bunks in the Lodge. The Lodge is now separated into 3 rooms, 2 of which have bunks. The main area contains 16 bunks and retains a large space in the middle. The second room is smaller, containing 4 bunks.
For more information see facilities and bookings.
This weekend Rob renewed the flowerbed at the entrance to the car park. Plants now present include impatiens, marigolds, petunias, lobelia and conifers.
